The other week I started this biopic about a group of young rappers that started really in the 80’s and grew to be one of the biggest rap groups in world history.
The biopic does not hold anything back and tells you how it really is or was back then.
If you want to know how Dr Dre, Ice Cube, Snoop Dogg and the late great Eazy E got their start this is the movie for you.

The movie depicts all characters in a good light I feel because it shows the characters as whole people with worts and all.
Although there was violence, sex, drugs and many other aspects to this movie it was painting a picture of the time in history and to somewhat shows the ignorance and prejudice that society had at the time and also the lack of education and understanding.
Without wanting to spoil anything for the fans and viewers this movie is dedicated to Eazy E and shows him as the main character as he founded his own record label first and got the group going in the beginning although it was a shady start with a big bad guy. However it was like falling from the frying pan to the fire as there were undercutting and a rap war occurring when the group split after the manager was found out to be shady.
What it also showed was a brief understanding of where the boys all came from and what they left to try and make a better life for themselves.

One thing I found surprising was out of NWA came Bone Thugs and Harmony I did not realize that connection.
We get to see the births of some iconic hits like Chronic a small touch on Tupac and his work with Dr Dre on California Love.

We do not see much of tupac as as we all know his story is separate to NWA but Dr Dre did work with him.
The other small but interesting aspect I found was we got to really see a side of a character that really became Notorious to the downfall of 2Pac and Notorious BIG.
We get to see Suga Knight and how messed up he was or still is??
The movie also does not grey out the fact that the group was highly sexually active and the consequences of that and how it affected the group and in someway brought the group back.
The really cool thing was in this group there was no death by murder that we saw the groups bonds were song and if they disagreed they fought it out on the rap stage.

This is not suitable for kiddies at all and I would say you could watch this in music class with parental permission for years 11 & 12 only.
A solid movie with truth. A shout out to Ice Cube Dr Dre and Snoop Dogg and RIP Eazy E
