Movie Reviews: The Jungle Book (1967) DISNEY+

We sat and watched this original The Jungle Book movie on the Disney+ service a few weeks ago.

I am not sure if you guys have seen this recently on the Disney+ service Disney has put in an announcement about not being racist and how they did not mean anything in this movie being racist.

There are six classic Disney cartoons with this message before the cartoon starts.

  • Peter Pan
  • The Jungle Book
  • Peter Pan
  • Lady & The Tramp
  • The Aristocats
  • Dumbo

In the Jungle Book, you have the crow and Monkey scenes depicted as other cultures and show these cultures in a bad light.

The other issue I find with Disney classics is how they have remade a bunch of them most recently the Pinocchio remake and The Jungle Book remake are also in the same boat. We all grew up watching these classics and did not feel our innocence gone or like my daughter feel scared and left the room.

The new remakes are dark and scary and even though they are for kids I really feel they are not suitable for kids under 10.

The other element of this movie-watching experience with watching this with my family my mum told me this was the second time she has ever seen this movie and she was like very young when this movie came out initally.

Do we think that society has become too politically correct when watching these cartoons and not watching classic Disney cartoons only for escapism and having fun with the family?

I give the movie a 6/10
